Pensacola, Florida -1 October 2022– Veterans Yoga Project (VYP) has announced its9th Annual Veterans Gratitude Week fundraising event will take place Nov.4-13, 2022. Veterans Gratitude Week encourages yoga studios, instructors, and communities across the country to host donation-based classes or fundraising events to support the Veteran community, especially those struggling with post-traumatic stress and other trauma-related issues.

VYP, in conjunction with the Veterans Memorial Park Foundation of Pensacola, announces “Yoga4AHERO” at the Park in observance of the 247thBirthday of the United States Marine Corps on November 10th, 2022.

America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors (AHERO) recently adopted Mindful Resilience Yogainto its support programming for wounded/injured Veterans and First Responders. Colonel Doug King, USMC (Ret) will bring his personal experience of positive outcomes and his instructional expertise to lead the event. “We recognize the increased therapeutic value of our activities when we incorporate the meditative, relaxing, and strengthening aspects of the exercise, breathwork and concentration elements of yoga,” said AHERO Vice President Dave Glassman. “We’re extremely grateful for the support of the Veterans Yoga Project and to the Veterans Memorial Park Foundation of Pensacola for hosting this event,” he said.

The event will start at 7:30am with the yoga class instruction running from 8:00am-9:15am and participants are encouraged to stay for the Reading of the Names of the Vietnam War Memorial “Wall South” throughout the morning.

Participation is limited due to space available at the designated area of the Park identified as the grass area located between the War Dog and the Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments.Participants can donate with cash and checks in person or by texting"VYP" to 707070. Participants can also donate and attend virtually by registering for yoga class here:

“In working with the Veteran community, I’ve witnessed firsthand how important yoga and meditation practice is for vets dealing with PTS(D),” said Dr. Daniel Libby, a clinical psychologist and CEO of VYP. “The success I’ve seen is the reason I created the Veterans Yoga Project and it’s the reason why we’re on a mission to bring yoga and mindfulness to Vets who need it.”

Since 2014, Veterans Gratitude Week has grown to host 2,542 classes in all 50 states and has raised $510,000 for veterans, military families, and their communities. This year to raise funds, Veterans Yoga Project supporters will host classes in-person, online, and on their app. In the week leading up to Veterans Day, VYP will spotlight each branch of service and the veterans within their organization who served during their annual ‘Warrior Salute’. You can find other classes taught by VYP Teachers all week by visiting VYP's Zoom Events page:

Veterans Yoga Project depends upon the support of donors to take care of veterans in need. All of the proceeds benefit VYP’s mission of supporting recovery and resilience in our veterans, military families and communities.

“I am a retired Navy SEAL and yoga probably saved my life. Soon after retiring in 2010, I felt the uneasiness and worthlessness that a lot of Veterans feel. My mind was a mess and my life was in disarray. Luckily, I found my yoga practice and started clawing my way back to a better life. I recently completed 200-hour teacher training and I look forward to teaching other veterans the benefits of yoga.” -Michael, Veteran participant in VYP Programming

Anyone can sign up at: “Less than one percent of Americans have served their country,” said Libby. “Participating in Veterans Gratitude Week is more than just thanking a veteran for their service, it’s a tangible way to give back to those who have sacrificed in service to our country.”
